A body composition report can make health feel suddenly precise. Yet a decimal place does not remove uncertainty. FitProfile can help display and follow measurements from a compatible device, but the meaning of each field depends on the device and its calculation. The report should start a conversation, not deliver a verdict about your future.
The method matters more than the app label
Bioelectrical impedance estimates body composition from electrical measurements and predictive equations. Kyle and colleagues' review explains why suitable equations, standard procedures and hydration matter. Estimates of fat-free mass are not direct measurements of skeletal muscle alone. Research on BIA as a method does not independently validate every scale, app or individual report field.
If a report includes body age, metabolic age or a visceral-fat rating, ask how it is calculated and what it has been validated against. Such labels are not equivalent to a DNA methylation ageing test or a medical scan. An apparently younger age cannot exclude disease, and an older one should not automatically trigger a treatment purchase.
Use a small number of useful trends
Consider body composition alongside weight, waist measurements where appropriate, activity and everyday function. Compare results using the same device and similar conditions. A clinician may need to assess unexpected changes or symptoms regardless of what the app displays.
- Ask which fields are measured and which are estimated.
- Avoid interpreting lean mass as muscle alone.
- Keep conditions consistent for repeat measurements.
- Discuss meaningful patterns rather than a single decimal.
Zhen's Longevity MOT uses body composition estimates within a wider physical assessment. The aim is an informed plan, not selling a FitProfile score as a diagnostic or biological-age certificate. Your goals and how you feel remain part of the interpretation.
Putting this into practice at Zhen
At Zhen Wellness in Onchan, Isle of Man, we help you turn health information into realistic next steps. The £97 Longevity MOT is a standalone 60-minute assessment of your history, priorities, posture, mobility and body composition estimates, with pain mapping where relevant. It is not a biological-age blood test, medical diagnosis or prediction of lifespan. Any further service is chosen separately around your needs, with costs discussed before you decide.
