Sleep health programme Isle of Man

Sleep is not a lifestyle choice. It is the single most powerful physiological repair mechanism your body has. When it is disrupted, everything else deteriorates: metabolic rate, hormonal balance, cognitive function, immune response, and rate of biological ageing. The programme addresses the causes, not the symptoms.

The intervention nobody talks about

Every major longevity clinic in the world now lists sleep optimisation as a core service. Not because it is fashionable, but because the research is unambiguous: inadequate or disrupted sleep accelerates biological ageing faster than almost any other single factor. It impairs insulin sensitivity within four days of restriction. It elevates inflammatory markers that drive cardiovascular disease, dementia, and cancer risk. It degrades the hormonal environment that governs muscle retention, fat metabolism, and mood.

The problem is that most advice about sleep is generic. Sleep eight hours. Avoid screens. Keep a consistent bedtime. Most people have heard all of this and are still not sleeping well. The reason is that poor sleep in adults almost always has a specific underlying cause, and that cause is not addressed by generic advice.

The sleep health programme at Zhen Wellness begins where that advice ends. It identifies what is specifically driving your poor sleep and applies a targeted protocol to each factor. The result is measurable improvement in sleep quality, not just a longer time in bed.

The research is consistent: six hours of sleep produces the cognitive and physiological impairment of a legally drunk adult. After ten days of six-hour nights, subjective sleepiness plateaus while objective impairment continues to worsen. Most adults with chronic sleep restriction have lost the ability to accurately assess how impaired they are. The problem is larger than it feels.

Six areas. One specific protocol for each.

Poor sleep in adults rarely has a single cause. The programme works through each of the six evidence-based levers that govern sleep quality, identifies which are relevant to your specific picture, and builds a protocol around them.

01

Sleep audit

A detailed assessment of your current sleep: duration, architecture, circadian timing, sleep debt, daytime function, and the specific factors that are most likely disrupting your rest. Most people have never had this conversation with a clinician. Most have no idea what their sleep is actually doing to their health.

02

Circadian rhythm calibration

Your body clock governs when every hormone is released, when your body temperature drops, when your liver expects food, and when your brain clears its waste products. Circadian misalignment, common in adults with irregular schedules, screen exposure, or shift patterns, degrades sleep quality even when hours in bed are sufficient.

03

Cortisol and stress management

Elevated evening cortisol is one of the most common and most overlooked causes of poor sleep in adults. A cortisol profile that should peak in the morning and fall to baseline by 10pm is, in many adults, chronically dysregulated. The programme includes practical protocols for lowering the pre-sleep arousal that prevents sleep onset and disrupts deep sleep.

04

Nutritional sleep support

Specific dietary choices directly influence sleep architecture. Timing of carbohydrate intake, protein and tryptophan levels, magnesium status, and evening caffeine and alcohol consumption all have measurable effects on time spent in slow-wave and REM sleep. The programme provides specific, evidence-based nutritional recommendations tailored to your clinical picture.

05

Movement and light protocols

Physical activity timing, light exposure in the morning, and blue light management in the evening are three of the highest-leverage sleep interventions available without any medication. The programme provides specific schedules and practical adjustments that produce measurable improvements in sleep onset latency and sleep continuity within two to three weeks.

06

Supplementation guidance

Magnesium glycinate, glycine, ashwagandha, and phosphatidylserine each have meaningful evidence bases for specific aspects of sleep quality. The programme identifies which interventions are appropriate for your profile and at what doses, without the generic supplement advice that addresses nothing specifically.

What inadequate sleep actually does

The list of health consequences from poor sleep is not speculative. Each of the following has a robust, replicated evidence base across large prospective studies and controlled trials:

  • Insulin resistance develops within four to seven days of sleeping six hours or fewer. The metabolic consequences are equivalent to a pre-diabetic state.
  • Growth hormone secretion, which occurs primarily in slow-wave sleep, drops by approximately 60 percent in adults who consistently sleep fewer than seven hours. Growth hormone is the primary driver of overnight tissue repair and body composition regulation.
  • Testosterone levels in men fall by 10 to 15 percent after one week of sleeping five hours per night, equivalent to ageing ten years in seven days.
  • Amyloid clearance from the brain occurs primarily during deep sleep. Chronic sleep deprivation is one of the strongest modifiable risk factors for Alzheimer's disease and cognitive decline.
  • NK cell activity, a primary measure of immune competence, falls by 70 percent after one night of four hours. Sleep-deprived adults are significantly more susceptible to viral illness.
  • Cortisol remains elevated in sleep-deprived adults, driving visceral fat accumulation, muscle catabolism, and chronic low-grade inflammation simultaneously.

Addressing sleep quality is not optional if longevity is the goal. Every other intervention, whether nutritional, physical, or hormonal, produces meaningfully worse results in an adult who is not sleeping adequately.

The Sleep Health Programme

Six sessions over six weeks. Each session builds on the previous one, using your reported outcomes and any available tracking data to adjust the protocol in real time. The programme is structured around the specific causes of your poor sleep, not a generic template.

Session one establishes the baseline: a detailed sleep audit using a validated instrument, a review of your diet, training, light exposure and stress patterns, and identification of the two or three highest-leverage intervention points. The remaining sessions implement, monitor, and refine those interventions over six weeks.

By week three, most clients report measurable improvements in sleep onset time and reduction in night waking. By week six, the protocol is embedded and the maintenance habits are clear. You leave with a written summary of your sleep drivers, your personalised protocol, and an understanding of what to monitor going forward.

Start with a Longevity MOT

Sleep health clients begin with a Longevity MOT so that the programme is built around the full clinical picture, not sleep in isolation. The £97 assessment fee is separate and is not redeemable against any programme.

We take a limited number of new clients each month.
