Muscle loss treatment Isle of Man

For adults on the Isle of Man losing muscle mass and functional strength after fifty. Working harder is not the answer.

The loss nobody warns you about

Muscle mass begins declining in most adults from the mid-thirties onwards. By fifty, the rate of loss accelerates. By sixty, many adults have lost enough functional muscle to change how they move, how they recover from physical effort, and how stable they feel on their feet. Most of them have no idea this is happening because the process is gradual and because the advice they receive, to exercise more and eat more protein, addresses the symptom rather than the underlying mechanism.

The problem is not effort. Adults who lose significant muscle mass between fifty and sixty are often active people. The problem is that the neuromuscular stimulus required to retain and rebuild deep muscle fibres is one that conventional exercise, however conscientious, cannot reliably deliver. The fibres that matter most are the last to be recruited and the first to atrophy. Reaching them requires a different kind of stimulus entirely.

The consequence of not addressing this is not just feeling weaker. It is a change in body composition, a reduction in metabolic rate, a measurable increase in fall risk, and a progressive loss of the physical capacity that determines what you can and cannot do in your seventies and eighties.

Adults who begin a structured muscle retention programme in their fifties are not just preserving strength. They are preserving independence. The muscle you retain now determines the quality of your physical life in the decades ahead. The muscle you lose now does not come back on its own.

What we use and why

Electrical muscle stimulation

Uses bio-electrical impulses to simultaneously contract multiple muscle groups at intensities and depths that voluntary exercise cannot reliably achieve. Particularly effective for adults who cannot train at sufficient intensity due to joint pain, injury or reduced capacity. Each session produces the neuromuscular stimulus of an intensive resistance session without the joint loading that makes conventional training impractical or counterproductive for many adults over fifty.

Personalised movement programming

A structured fitness and movement programme built around your current capacity, your physical goals, and the specific muscle groups identified as deficient at your Longevity MOT. The programme evolves across the eight-session course to progressively load the muscles and build functional strength patterns that transfer into the movements that matter in everyday life.

The Longevity Strength Programme

Eight sessions over eight to ten weeks. £695. Each session combines electrical muscle stimulation with movement programming, adjusted according to the progress made and the clinical picture established at your Longevity MOT.

The programme is designed to produce measurable improvements in muscle mass, functional strength and physical capacity within the eight-week period. Outcome measurements are taken at the end of the programme and an ongoing maintenance recommendation is provided so you know exactly what is required to hold and build on what you have gained.
