A balanced diet can be worth improving even when a condition needs ongoing medication. Asthma research offers a useful food-quality angle without turning vegetables into a rescue treatment.
What the research found
A randomised study in 137 adults with asthma compared higher and lower fruit-and-vegetable intake. The lower-intake group had a higher exacerbation risk during follow-up. A tomato-extract intervention did not show the same benefit. The dietary comparison was not a vegan-diet trial and does not establish that extra produce replaces inhalers or an asthma action plan.
The study compared defined high and low intakes, so it cannot predict the effect of one additional serving in every person's usual diet. The supplement findings also warn against assuming an isolated antioxidant recreates the effect of a food pattern.
Keep food choices ordinary and achievable
Add suitable fruit or vegetables to familiar meals, using fresh, frozen or appropriate tinned options. Maintain protein, energy and variety too. If a food causes a confirmed allergy or symptoms, follow individual advice rather than forcing it because it appears on a healthy-food list.
- Continue inhalers as prescribed.
- Keep your asthma action plan.
- Prefer balanced meals to supplement promises.
Worsening breathing or an asthma attack requires the action specified in your clinical plan and urgent help when needed. Zhen can support eating habits, not assess acute asthma or promise protection from attacks.
