Burning or numb feet can be frightening, and the cause matters. In diabetes, nutritional support may belong in the care plan, but a food study should not be marketed as proof that every painful foot needs the same approach.
What the research found
A 20-week randomised pilot tested a low-fat plant-based diet plus weekly support in people with painful diabetic neuropathy. Both intervention and comparison groups received B12 supplementation. Some pain and clinical measures improved more with the supported diet. This small trial cannot establish reversal of nerve damage, isolate diet from support, or prove that food replaces diabetes and neuropathy treatment.
Weight and glucose changes may contribute, alongside support and other factors. Both groups receiving B12 also means the dietary effect cannot simply be attributed to that supplement. Larger trials are needed to clarify durable benefits and safety.
Protect clinical care and practical eating
Discuss suitable meals, glucose monitoring and any medication implications with your diabetes team. Maintain adequate nutrients and regular foot checks. Reduced sensation can conceal an injury; do not wait for pain to decide whether a wound needs attention.
- Continue diabetes and nerve-pain care.
- Report wounds or worsening symptoms promptly.
- Do not diagnose nerve damage from a footprint.
Zhen's gait and arch support can address movement questions within scope, but it does not diagnose neuropathy or vascular disease. Persistent burning, numbness or new weakness needs medical assessment, not a promise of a diet or insole cure.
