A plant-based diet should help you meet your needs, not simply remove foods. Bones rely on adequate nutrition and suitable loading through movement; a healthy-looking menu is not proof that either is sufficient.
What the research found
The EPIC-Oxford observational study found higher fracture rates at some sites among vegans than meat eaters, including hip fractures. This does not prove that vegan diets caused the difference, but it is a reason not to promise automatic bone protection. The findings make nutritional adequacy, healthy body weight and appropriate clinical bone assessment important alongside any plant-based preference.
The study followed people rather than randomly assigning diets. Differences in body size, nutrients and other factors complicate interpretation, and adjustment cannot remove every source of confounding. Conversely, favourable findings about an individual fruit cannot cancel concerns about an inadequate overall pattern.
Check what the plan provides
Suitable calcium-fortified products, calcium-set tofu where available, appropriate protein sources and reliable B12 can contribute. Vitamin D needs also require attention. Check labels because fortification varies. If appetite is low or weight is falling unintentionally, calorie restriction is not the default goal.
- Review nutrient adequacy.
- Keep appropriate strength and balance activity.
- Follow clinical osteoporosis treatment where prescribed.
A salon body composition scan is not a bone-density test. Zhen can support practical habits, while fracture risk, DXA assessment and medication decisions remain with your healthcare team.
