Heat, infrared and red light are often grouped together in wellness advertising. They are not interchangeable. A sauna uses heat to raise thermal exposure. Zhen's Red Room uses red and near-infrared LED panels at 660 nm and 850 nm for photobiomodulation, not infrared sauna heat.

What sauna evidence supports

Hussain and Cohen's systematic review included forty human dry-sauna studies, but only thirteen were randomised trials and most studies were small. Methods and outcomes varied considerably. Potential benefits were reported, yet the authors called for stronger evidence on clinical effects, suitable protocols and adverse events. Observational associations do not prove that sauna use causes longer life.

It would be misleading to transfer findings from heated Finnish or infrared saunas to a non-heating LED room. Temperature, wavelength, intensity, exposure and the intended mechanism differ. A treatment should be described using evidence for the actual technology and outcome, not a nearby-sounding term.

Heat is not automatically safe because it is relaxing

Sweating can change fluid balance, and heat can cause dizziness or other symptoms. People with cardiovascular conditions, pregnancy or medicines affecting hydration or blood pressure may need specific advice. Do not use discomfort as a target, combine heat with alcohol or assume sweat represents toxins or fat leaving the body.

  • Check which technology is actually being offered.
  • Ask what outcome the evidence measured.
  • Discuss relevant conditions and medicines.
  • Do not apply sauna exposure rules to LED sessions.

Zhen's Red Room should be considered on its own evidence and screening requirements. You may choose it as an adjunct to a realistic plan, but it is not a sauna, a UV sunbed or a proven lifespan treatment. Clear distinctions make it easier to decide whether a service fits your needs.

Putting this into practice at Zhen

At Zhen Wellness in Onchan, Isle of Man, we help you turn health information into realistic next steps. The £97 Longevity MOT is a standalone 60-minute assessment of your history, priorities, posture, mobility and body composition estimates, with pain mapping where relevant. It is not a biological-age blood test, medical diagnosis or prediction of lifespan. Any further service is chosen separately around your needs, with costs discussed before you decide.

Research and safety

Sources checked on 14 October 2026. Studies describe their own participants and interventions, not Zhen treatment outcomes. Evidence can change; research is not free of bias. This article is general education, not individual medical advice. Adult fasting or exercise protocols are not suitable instructions for children. Seek appropriate clinical advice for new symptoms, medical conditions, pregnancy or treatment changes. Never stop prescribed medicines to follow a wellness plan.
