It would be convenient if ageing had one cause and one solution. That is not how the current science describes it. DNA damage, cellular regulation, immune changes and tissue function interact. A product claiming to target one pathway cannot automatically claim to protect your whole future health.
What the hallmarks framework does, and does not, show
The 2023 Hallmarks of Aging review outlines twelve interacting hallmarks, including epigenetic alterations, mitochondrial dysfunction and chronic inflammation. It brings together mechanistic and experimental research. Calling something a hallmark does not mean there is already a safe, effective treatment for it in humans, or that a commercial supplement treats the entire ageing process.
This matters when laboratory terms enter everyday marketing. An effect in cells may depend on a concentration or method that cannot be safely reproduced in people. Animal outcomes also do not establish human lifespan benefits. Mechanistic plausibility is a reason to investigate, not a substitute for trials showing clinically meaningful benefit.
A combined approach without an extravagant promise
Human evidence supports specific pieces of healthy living. Resistance training can improve strength and function. WHO recommends regular aerobic activity and muscle strengthening for adults. These findings do not solve every ageing mechanism, but they support practical priorities that can be adapted to real people.
- Build movement and strength gradually.
- Ensure enough food and essential nutrients.
- Leave room for recovery and medical care.
- Choose services for a clear goal, not a cellular slogan.
Zhen's assessment-led approach can bring these priorities together without presenting its services as a complete biological repair programme. A useful plan may be simpler than an expensive stack of products. What matters is whether it supports the capability and health habits you can maintain.
Putting this into practice at Zhen
At Zhen Wellness in Onchan, Isle of Man, we help you turn health information into realistic next steps. The £97 Longevity MOT is a standalone 60-minute assessment of your history, priorities, posture, mobility and body composition estimates, with pain mapping where relevant. It is not a biological-age blood test, medical diagnosis or prediction of lifespan. Any further service is chosen separately around your needs, with costs discussed before you decide.
