Skin, hair and nails are living tissues, but a beauty-focused eating plan can become surprisingly restrictive. Cutting out whole food groups while adding a powder is not automatically nourishing. The starting point is adequate food and essential nutrients, not a detox designed to make the body look younger quickly.

Adequacy is different from a cosmetic promise

NHS vegan guidance describes how to plan protein, calcium, vitamin B12 and other nutrients using varied foods, fortification and appropriate supplements. Those recommendations concern normal nutritional needs. They are not evidence that one bowl, juice or supplement makes skin biologically younger or guarantees thicker hair.

The collagen-supplement literature also illustrates the need for caution. A 2025 analysis found positive pooled results but not significant benefit in higher-quality or non-pharmaceutical-funded study subgroups. This makes it inappropriate to use a beauty ingredient as a substitute for a complete diet or a clear account of uncertainty.

Keep the routine supportive

Include satisfying meals, appropriate protein sources and varied plant foods. Avoid rapid weight-loss plans if hair is shedding or intake is poor, and arrange medical advice for worrying changes. Skin symptoms such as persistent inflammation, unusual lesions or sudden changes need their own assessment rather than a general nutrition explanation.

  • Plan meals before purchasing extra powders.
  • Check reliable vitamin B12 provision on a vegan diet.
  • Avoid assigning every symptom to a deficiency.
  • Use suitable skincare and sun protection alongside nutrition.

At Zhen, nutrition support and cosmetic skin services can address different priorities without pretending they are interchangeable. A facial does not correct a diagnosed deficiency, and a food plan does not treat every skin disorder. The best plan starts with the problem you actually have.

Putting this into practice at Zhen

At Zhen Wellness in Onchan, Isle of Man, we help you turn health information into realistic next steps. The £97 Longevity MOT is a standalone 60-minute assessment of your history, priorities, posture, mobility and body composition estimates, with pain mapping where relevant. It is not a biological-age blood test, medical diagnosis or prediction of lifespan. Any further service is chosen separately around your needs, with costs discussed before you decide.

Research and safety

This article is general education, not individual medical advice. Adult fasting or exercise protocols are not suitable instructions for children. Seek appropriate clinical advice for new symptoms, medical conditions, pregnancy or treatment changes. Never stop prescribed medicines to follow a wellness plan.
