Feeling tired after a busy week is different from a lasting change in energy, strength or exercise tolerance. When a symptom becomes familiar, it is tempting to call it ageing and carry on. That can delay help for a treatable problem. A wellness plan should never require you to ignore warning signs.

Age is context, not a diagnosis

Sleep disruption, low intake, medication effects and many medical conditions can affect energy and function. Hair loss, for example, can accompany illness, stress, weight loss or iron deficiency according to NHS guidance. These possibilities do not mean everyone needs supplements or a large panel of tests. They mean a change deserves an appropriate history and assessment.

Healthy living remains useful, but it cannot establish the cause of unexplained symptoms. Increasing exercise sharply or restricting food may make a problem harder to manage. Looking fit, having a favourable body composition result or receiving a reassuring commercial age score does not exclude disease.

Know when to change the plan

Arrange clinical advice for persistent unexplained tiredness, unintended weight loss, new weakness or worsening symptoms. Chest pain, sudden neurological symptoms, collapse or severe breathlessness need urgent medical assessment. These are not situations to try to overcome with bodywork, fasting or a more demanding workout.

  • Note when the change began.
  • Record medicines and other symptoms.
  • Avoid extreme changes before assessment.
  • Tell your practitioner about relevant medical advice.

Once the right support is in place, realistic activity can still improve capability. The LIFE trial showed benefits for mobility in a defined group of older adults, not a cure for every cause of fatigue. At Zhen, the useful question is what helps you safely, and whether another professional should be involved first.

Putting this into practice at Zhen

At Zhen Wellness in Onchan, Isle of Man, we help you turn health information into realistic next steps. The £97 Longevity MOT is a standalone 60-minute assessment of your history, priorities, posture, mobility and body composition estimates, with pain mapping where relevant. It is not a biological-age blood test, medical diagnosis or prediction of lifespan. Any further service is chosen separately around your needs, with costs discussed before you decide.

Research and safety

Sources checked on 14 October 2026. Studies describe their own participants and interventions, not Zhen treatment outcomes. Evidence can change; research is not free of bias. This article is general education, not individual medical advice. Adult fasting or exercise protocols are not suitable instructions for children. Seek appropriate clinical advice for new symptoms, medical conditions, pregnancy or treatment changes. Never stop prescribed medicines to follow a wellness plan.
